Protologue type data: Mexico: Coahuila: 27 miles west of Paila along Route 40, cactus-covered hillside, 25°35'N, 102°35'W, 1200 m, on sandstone, T. H. Nash III 13,957 (Holotype, ASU).

Description: Lichen. Thallus areolate, up to 5 cm across; areoles: round to irregularly lobed, eventually subsquamulose, ... .

Chemistry: Hypoprotocetraric acid (major), acaranoic acid (major), 4-0-demethylnotatic acid (minor), and rhizocarpic acid (major) (HPLC, J.A. Elix, pers. comm. (Knudsen 2007: 5).

Ecology: On granite, sandstone, and volcanic rock.
