Type locality: Norway, Finmark, Altenfjord, Bosekop, IV.1802, G. Wahlenberg (UPS - holotype).

Thallus: areolate to bullate, brown, -0.5 mm thick. Apothecia biatorine to lecideine, to 1 mm diam., broadly sessile, margin thick and persistent. Hymenium to 60-80 µm high. Hypothecium dark brown. Spores Physconia-type, rugulate, broadly oblong, constricted at septum, 13-18 x 7-9.5 µm. Conidiomata + common, conidia 15-30 µm (Moberg 2002: 8).

Photobiont: Green alga.

Chemistry: No lichen substances by TLC in Nordic material (Moberg 2002: 8).

Ecology: Saxicolous, on granitic or basaltic seashore rocks in boreal or arctic areas (Moberg 2002: 8).

Distribution type: Coastal British Isles, Scandinavia, Siberia, Alaska, Canada and Antarctica.
