Thallus: partly brownish- or ashy-grey, rather thin, rough. Apothecia in part of thallus almost contiguous, 0.3-0.5 mm wide, margin hardly prominent, often rough. Apothecia about 0.2 mm thick, sometimes with 0.22 mm thallus below, pale part about 150 µ deep. Gonidial stratum up into the edge and continuous all round with 7-10 or oven 15-20 µ large gonidia, but sometimes absent at one side. Irregular small parts of cortex seen on lower side, hyaline, with about 3 µ wide cells. Exciple varying, sometimes 15-20 µ thick all round with 1.5 µ cells, hyaline, sometimes forming the edge and dark brown. 15-25 µ thick and going inwards at base for 85 µ, sometimes dark only at the very edge. Hypothecium 30-35 µ thick, hyaline with intricate hyphae, or often dark yellowish brown to 100 µ thick, but then separated from the dark exciple by a paler stratum. Thecium 70-80 µ high, hyaline, I+ dark blue like parts of hypothecium and exciple: apices of paraphyses dark yellowish brown, capitate, 3.5-5 µ, discrete in KOH. Spores 8, 11-13 x 6-7 µ pale brownish green, thin-walled, constricted at the thin septum (Magnusson 1947: 40).
