Description: Lichen. Thallus fruticose, caespitose, somewhat rigid to lax, up to 5 cm tall, intricately branched. Branches terete but with occasional flatening, pale to dark brown, fibrils sparse, arcuately curved. Pseudocyphellae absent. Soralia few to fairly numerous, fissural, usually plane. Apothecia unknown (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 22).

Algae: Green algae (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 22).

Chemistry: Fumarprotocetraric acid, protocetraric acid. Medulla and soralia PD+ orange-red (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 22).

Ecology: In East Africa among bryophytes on rocks and soil in the upper ericaceous and low alpine zones at 3500 to 4200 m altitude, rare (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 22).
