Protologue: Buelliae lauricassiaeoidis similis, sed differt thallo duabus substantiis ignotis continenti, atranorino destituto, sporis magis ornamentatis, (1-2)-3-septatis, et paraphysibus apicaliter magis incrassatis.

Protologue type data: Typus: Canary Islands, La Palma, 4 km WSW of Los Sauces, Los Tilos, 17°48.2'W, 28°47.2'N, 750 m, laurisilva, narrow cleft with path along N facing rock sheer, between mirador and bridge, on Ilex canariensis, 2 May 1999, P. v.d. Boom 22236 (BCC-holotypus; hb. v.d. Boom-isotypus).

Type locality: Canary Islands, La Palma, 4 km WSW of Los Sauces, Los Tilos, laurisilva, narrow cleft with path along N facing rock sheer, between mirador and bridge, on Ilex canariensis, 750 m, 2 May 1999, P. van den Boom 22236 (BCC - holotype; van den Boom - isotype).

ITS barcode: Data lacking.

Description: Lichen. Thallus crustose, greenish or creamy, thin, continuous, smooth; medulla I+ faintly violet. Prothallus present, thin brownish. Apothecia scattered, first subimmersed, later becoming sessile, (0.3-)0.4-0.6(-0.8) mm diam., when young urceolate, with discs almost enclosed by the margin, some with thalline granules on the excipular rim and inside the enclosed disc. Disc dark reddish brown to black.

Taxonomy: Buellia laurocanariensis is well characterized by the thin, greenish, smooth and continuous thallus ... Data lacking.

Note: When described from La Palma, the species was simultaneously recorded from Gomera (Canary Islands).
