Calicium hyperelloides Nyl.

Type locality: Spain, Canary Islands, Tenerife, San Diego northeast of Puerto de la Cruz, Borgeau s.n. (H-NYL 40844 - holotype).

Description: Lichen. Thallus crustose, superficial, minutely granular, yellowish green. Capitulum and stalk up to 0.6 mm high, with stalk black, capitulum black, epruinose or sometimes with a faint grey pruina on lower side of exciple, mazaedium black, becoming protruding, Spores 10 - 15 / 4 - 5 µm, with minutely warty surface (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 29).

Photobiont: Data lacking.

Chemistry: Xanthones. Thallus K+ dull yellow, C+ orange, KC+ orange-red, PD-, UV+ dark orange (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 29).

Ecology: In East Africa on ecorticate wood at 1600 m (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 29).

Distribution type: Widespread in tropical and subtropical regions.
