Caloplaca cupulifera (Vain.) Zahlbr.

Basionym: Caloplaca cupulifera Vain., in Hariot, J. Bot., Paris 1: 285 (1887).

 

Thallus: crustose, areolate, margin thinning at edge, slightly lobed or notched, with elongated lobes, 0.3-0.4 mm long, 0.2-0.3 mm wide; prothallus absent; surface yellowish orange, smooth, sorediate; soredia fine, in delimited, laminal, cupuliform soralia; cortex cellular, thickness 20-30 µm, granules absent, medulla dense, without granules. Apothecia absent. Pycnidia unknown (Nash et al. 2001: xx).

Photobiont: Data lacking.

Chemistry: Thallus K+ red, H-, 10%N-, cN-, C-; medulla IKI-; unidentified anthraquinones (Nash et al. 2001: xx).

Ecology: On non-calcareous rocks.
