Type locality: South Africa. Cape Province. Namaqualand, Hondeklip Bay, on dead shrubs in the dunes near the sea, 1953 Ove Almborn 4679 (LD, holotype; GZU, KW, PRE, UPS, isotypes).

Thallus: distinctly warted, 2-5 mm diam., 0.2-0.3 mm thick, composed of aggregated lobules and groups of clustered algae or soredia-like structures, greenish gray. Central parts and tips of warts with distinct, thick, white pruina. Apothecia zeorine, 0.5-2.0(-2.7) mm diam., marginal distinctly warted; disc whitish-yellowish with thin pruina; thalline margin 0.2-0.3(-0.4) mm thick; true exciple well-developed, ca. 90-100 µm thick in lateral portion, thinner in basal portion, composed of true scleroplectenchymatous layer, with large white necrotic zone formed by bundles of hyphae projecting from true exciple; thalline exciple composed of scleroplectenchymatous tissue, ca 12-18(-35) µm thick, partly covered by groups of parallel hyphae forming bundles that become white after dying; hypothecium ca 15 µm thick; hymenium ca 60-70 µm high, asci cylindric, ca 55 x 12 µm; Ascospores narrowly ellipsoid, 11.5-12.0(-13.0) x (6.0-)6.5-7.0 µm, septum 2.5-3.0 µm thick.
