Type locality: USA South Dakota: McPherson Co., ca. 11 mi [17.6 km] W and 2 mi [3.2 km] S of Leola, adjacent to Nature Conservancy`s Ordway Preserve, elev. ca. 1900 ft. [580 m], 45°42'31"N, 99°09'28"W, 29.4.2007, M.K. Advaita 5435 (MIN, holotype; ASU, GZU, KANU, LD, NY and others, isotypes; to be issued in Teloschistaceae Exsiccati).

Thallus: dark gray (Dark Plumbeous), areolate, 200-230(-500) µm thick; areoles 0.3-1.0 mm, irregular; soredia dark blue-gray, developing from areole margins, 30-40 µm diam.; prothallus white. Apothecia to 0.7 mm diam., flat, margin flush to slightly raised; proper margin dominant, lighter orange than disk, slight gray thalline margins sometimes on lower margins; disk dirty orange (Mars Orange); epihymenium dark golden, hymenium 56-70 µm; paraphyses with 1-2 slightly swollen tip cells, without branches; proper exciple at margin with branched hyphae and ellipsoid cells, algae in lower margin; asci 8-spored; Ascospores 11.0-12.5 x 5.5-7.0 µm, isthmus 3.0-4.0 µm. Pycnidia immersed, black, internally k+ violet; conidia ellipsoid, 2.4-3.0 x 1.2-1.9 µm. (Wetmore 2009: 380-381).
