Thallus: similar to C. deceptions but differs by much longer and thicker lobes with whitish marginal walls and by lack of soredia. Thallus regularly rounded, to 3.5 cm diam., with well developed, radiating, very long convex lobes in peripheral zone and densely papillose in the central part with large apothecia, orange-brownish. Papillae in central part of thallus from regularly rounded, a. 0.2-0.3 mm diam. to irregular, a. 0.7-1.1(-1.5) x 0.5-1.0 mm, and to 1 mm thick. Lobes very long, to 4-7 mm long, especially well developed towards tips, dissected on secondary lobules the same width (a. 0.5-0.7(-1) mm wide), and a. 3 mm from tips with very distinct latitude cracks, with abundant white pruine, with very deep cracks between lobules (but substrate is not seen!), marginal walls of lobes white. Total width of single lobe 8with all secondary lobules) to 1.5-3.0 mm wide. In sections lobes very thick, from 200-300 µm thick in marginal portions to much thicker (to 1 mm thick) in the central portion of lobe. Cortical layer paraplectenchymatous, to 10-15 µm thick, of isodiametric cells, a. 6-7 x 3-5 µm. Apothecia lecanorine, to (0.5-)1-2 mm diam. with very thick (to 0.2 mm wide) thalline margin, concolorous (orange-brownish) with thallus; disk somewhat darker of margin, or reddish-orange. Exciple paraplectenchymatous. Ascospores widely swollen at septum, 9-12 x 7-10(-11) µm, with thin septum, to 2-3 µm thick. Condo narrowly bacilliform, 2.5-3.5 x 1-1.3 µm. (Kondratyuk & Kudratov 2003: 68-69).
