Thallus: corticolous, slightly shiny, corticate, smooth, pale ochraceous grey, covering an area of up to 3 cm diam. Soredia formed in roundish, shallow soralia later covering much of the thallus, ochraceous yellow. Apothecia sessile, round to wavy, saucer-shaped, 0.3-0.5 mm diam. Disc black, shiny, flat, without pruina. Apothecium margin prominent, raised above the disc, black, shiny, c. 0.1 mm wide. Excipulum c. 75 µm wide, black outside, in section largely dark brown, pale brown inside, with crystals, lumina c. 10 µm wide. Hypothecium dark brown, c. 20-30 µm high. Hymenium not inspersed, c. 70-90 µm high. Epihymenium consisting of brown caps of paraphysis, without crystals, c. 4 µm high, K-. Ascospores 8/ascus, ellipsoid, 1-septate, brownish-black, 13-15 x 7-8 µm, not ornamented (Seaward & Aptroot 2009: 343).

Photobiont: Data lacking.

Chemistry: Norstictic acid; thallus and soredia K+ red (Seaward & Aptroot 2009: 343).

Ecology: Corticolous on coastal trees and shrubs (Seaward & Aptroot 2009: 344).

Distribution type: Known only from the type locality.
