Thallus: plate-like, monophyllous, thick and rigid, forming more or less orbicular, placodioid patches 5 - 10 cm in diameter, lobes mostly contiguous for entire length, rounded at apices, scarcely indented with thickened, ascending margins; upper surface blue-grey, occasionally browinsh or olivaceous, with prominent longitudinal ridges and concentric, lateral, crescent-shaped curves, giving the lobes a scallap-like appearance; lower surface with a prominent, blue-black, beard-like hypothallus. Soredia and isidia absent.

Ecology: On bark of Pinus canariensis and on earth at roadsides in shady places in the western Canary Islands.
