Thallus: crustose, uniform, verrucosely areolate, farinose, whitish. Areoles 0.5 - 1.2 mm large, in section 0.3 - 0.7 mm tall, hyphae penetrating into the substratum, irregularly angular or roundish. Hyphae 1-2 µm thick. Apothecia immersed, blackish, pruinose, orbicular, up to 0.7 mm in diameter and to 0.3 mm tall, discs urceolate, perithecioid, closed. Excipulum proprium blackish, 35 - 70 µm thick, pseudoparenchymatous. Hymenium 100 - 130 µm tall, hyaline. Hypothecium 10 µm tall, hyaline. Paraphyses 1 - 1.5 µm thick, simple. Asci cylindrical, 80 - 110 / 10 - 20 µm, 8-spored, tholus not amyloid. Ascospores ellipsoid, brown, muriform, transverse septa 3-5, longitudinal septa 1-2, 14-22 / 5.5 - 9 µm. Pycnidia globose, 30 - 60 µm thick. Conidia bacilliform, 4 - 6 / 1 - 1.5 µm (Lumbsch & Elix 1985: 276).

Photobiont: Pseudotrebouxia, cells to 20 µm thick (Lumbsch & Elix 1985: 276).
