Thallus: foliose, c. 3-7 cm diam.; lobes yellow to reddish orange, plane in terminal portions to convex and wrinkled in older parts, with well-developed and easily visible pseudocyphellae or necrotic spots in the central part, up to 5-7 mm long, and narrow, 0.7-1.5 mm, overlapping in various directions, closely adnate in the central part and raised at tips, 70-75(-112) µm thick in the terminal portions, much thicker in the central parts, 150-175(-185) µm underside without hapters or rhizines, but with very short, up to 0.1-0.15(-0.2) mm long rhizome-like structures in places of contact between overlapping lobes; upper cortex (5-)7-10 µm thick, composed of a type of scleroplectenchymatous tissue consisting of 1-2 layers of paraplectenchymatous cells; algal layer c. 15 µm thick; medulla compact sometimes with plectenchyma containing algae, 30-42 µm thick, or formed by scleroplectenchymatous tissue; lower cortex (7.5-)10-14(-17.5) µm, composed of 1-2 layers of vertically elongated cells. Apothecia lecanorine to biatorine, 1-3 mm diam., at first concave then flat to convex; true exciple composed of scleroplectenchymatous tissue with less conglutinated hyphae, sometimes markedly thickened in lateral parts, (50-)250-275(-400) µm, in basal parts c. 75-100(-125) µm; thalline exciple composed of scleroplectenchymatous hyphae with palisade elements at the surface; hymenium 55-60 µm high; paraphyses 1.5-1.8 µm thick at the base, apically branched and inflated, c. 5 µm; asci 45-55 x 12-15 µm. Ascospores ellipsoid (12-)13-15 x 5.5-6(-6.5) µm. Pycnidia reddish; conidia ellipsoid, 2-2.5(-39 x 0.9-1.2 µm (Kärnefelt et al. 2002: 341-344).
