Thallus: 1-3 cm across, 75-80(-120) µm thick, margins folded downwards, yellow to yellow-orange, brick-reddish or dark reddish-orange in the central portion and slightly lighter towards the tips of the lobes. Lobes well developed, of irregular shape, usually elongated, almost of the same width, 0.7-1.2 mm, and to 4-9 mm long, tips occasionally markedly widened, fen-like, overlapping, to 1.8-3.5 mm wide. Upper cortex (6-)10-12 µm thick, paraplectenchymatous. Algal layer to 25-30 µm thick. Medulla lax, 20-50 µm thick. Lower cortex 10-15 µm thick, paraplectenchymatous, cells rounded to polygonal, 4-6 µm across, cell walls somewhat thicker than in the upper cortex. Apothecia lecanorine (appearing zeorine in cross section) to biatorine, disc flat to somewhat convex; thalline exciple at least 100 µm wide, including a 15-20 µm wide cortical layer, palisade paraplectenchymatous, with elongated or rounded cells, 5-13 x 3-8 µm. True exciple sometimes disappearing, in the uppermost portion to 60-90 µm wide, to 20-40 µm wide in the lower lateral and to 10-20 µm wide in basal portions, pseudoprosoplectenchymatous, cell lumina 2-3.5 µm in diam. Hymenium 50-60 µm high. Paraphyses to 2 µm diam. at their bases, tips to 5-6 µm diam. Asci typically supplied with ascospores of various sizes. Ascospores small, wide or narrow, with medium sized septa, (6-)9-15(-16) x (5-)6-7(-8) µm in water [10-15(-17) x 7-9(-10.5) µm in K], septum (3-)4-7(-8) µm wide in water [5-8(-10) µm wide in K]. Spermatia not seen. (Kondratyuk et al. 2007: 170-171).
