Gyalecta jenensis (Batsch) Zahlbr.

Basionym: Peziza jenensis Batsch, Elench. Fung., Cont. Prim. (Halle): 219 (1786).

 

Thallus: crustaceous, thin, 100 - 150 µm thick, smooth to split forming areolae, sometimes appearing rough, licht brown, greenish-white to greenish, never powdery. Apothecia urceolate, abundant, sometimes becoming confluent, sessile, becoming narrower as they attached to the thallus; disc pinc to light orange, slightly pruinose, 0.3 - 1 mm diam. True exciple well developed, whitish, smooth to radially furrowed, hyaline in section, and consisting of a paraplectenchymatic tissue. Lower exciple, 55 - 85 µm high, consisting also of a paraplectenchymatic tissue. Hymenium colourless or slightly yellowish at the base, 100 - 150 µm high, consisting of paraphyses without entlarged apical cells. Ascus cylindrical, 6 - 8-spored. Ascospores ellipsoidal, becoming muriform when mature, 12.5 - 25 / 7 - 8 - 12.5 µm. Pycnidiospores bacilliform, hyaline and simple, 4 - 5.5. / 0.7 - 1 µm (Andrés & López de Silanes 2002: 262).

Ecology: On various calcareous substrata and on occasion on granite. Prefers damp and shaded habitats in a wide altitudinal range (Andrés & López de Silanes 2002: 262).
