Basionym: Lecanora solorinoides Nyl., Annls Sci. Nat., Bot., Sér. 3 20: 323 (1853).

 

Type locality: Syria, Beirut, Blanche (H-NYL p.m. 2484 - holotype).

Description: Lichen. Thallus crustose, squamules irregularly orbicular, becoming deeply concave, with margins downcurved; attached to substrate by numerous thick hyphae. Upper side conspicuously areolate, white to pale grey; with thick necral layer over deeply incised surface, under side greenish grey. Medulla with algal zone three-quarters to full depth, alga-free zone, if distinct, of paraplectenchymatous cells. Apothecia one to several per squamule, with red disc; spores 14-20 x 8-11 µm (Nylander 1863 fide Swinscow 1982: 79).

Chemistry: No lichen substances.

Ecology: On bare earth in exposed places (Swinscow 1982: 80).
