Description: Lichen. Thallus foliose, orbicular to somewhat irregular, mostly 1-2(-4) cm in diameter but sometimes coalescing into larger patches, appressed and sometimes agglutinate over much of the lower surface, but frequently with few to many unattached or even slightly raised lobes, especially noticable in specimens on rough bark, especially at the thallus periphery but also in some older parts; upper surface pale gray to gray-brown or brown, mostly smooth, dull to somewhat glossy, particularly in the pale specimens; epruinose but very infrequently with a thin epinecral layer which may be patchy on lobe ends, then resembling a pruina, or rarely even continuous and whitish toward the thallus center. Lobes linear to irregular and flabellate, flat to weakly convex or concave, discrete to somewhat contiguous, mostly ca. 0.3-0.6 mm broad, but occasionally up to 1 mm. Without a noticeable hypothallus. Soralia originating on or near the lobe margins or on ends of very short marginal lobes, irregular or often somewhat crescent-shaped, frequently becoming reflexed and at times even weakly labriform, in older and more mature thallus regions the soralia sometimes becoming elongate, or at times expanding out onto the lamina; soredia coarsely granular (25-60 µm) or rarely becoming pseudocorticate and isidioid, or very rarely weakly coralloid, green-gray or often darkening. Medulla white. ... Data lacking.
