Thallus: crustose, consisting of closely scattered to contiguous areoles, upper surface of areoles verrucose or granular-verrucose, granules (0.05-)0.1-0.2 mm wide and sometimes flattened, grey to greyish-brown, matt. Areoles angular, 0.3-1(-1.5) mm diam., covered with minute hairs arising from the granules. Hairs 30-60 x 5-7(-8) µm, simple to branched, straight or slightly curved, cellular, hyaline, with +granulate surface, with a distinct, strongly gelatinized wall below, becoming thinner walled above and tapering to a point.
