Thallus: fruticose, suberect to drooping or subpendent, to 12 cm long or more, sparsely to moderately branched; surface fluorescent yellow-green or chartreuse, matte, lightly to heavily scabrous; branches nearly cylindrical or somewhat flattened or irregular in cross section, nearly smooth to slightly foveolate or ridged and fissured, 0.5 - 2.5 - 3.0 mm diameter, the center loosely filled with cottony hyphae; medulla white; isidia lacking; soredia lacking. Apothecia common, to 1 cm diameter, disk brown, with a thalline exciple and sparse to abundant fibrils extending from the margins; ascospores ellipsoid, mostly 7.3 - 7.8 / 4.0 - 5.0 µm, averaging 7.5 / 4.5 µm. Pycnidia common, forming black spots in the upper cortex; spermatia slenderly cylindrical with a slight swelling off center, 7.5 - 8.0 / 0.6 - 1.0 µm (McCune & Altermann 2009).

Photobiont: Trebouxia spec.

Chemistry: Norstictic acid in apothecia, often in low quantities and difficult to detect with TLC (McCune & Altermann 2009).

Ecology: On bark or wood, apparently uncommon in montane to subalpine forests.
