Megalospora maderensis (Kremp.) Sipman

Biblthca Lichenol. 18: 137 (1983).

Basionym: Lecanora amplificans var. maderensis Kremp., Flora, Regensburg 51: 233 (1868).

 

Type locality: Portugal, Madeira, B. Castillo da Peira, 1867, Nr. 11 (M - holotype); Nr. 34, com. Schimper (M - syntype).

Ecology: On bark and rock (Pisut 2009: 182).

Distribution type: Endemic on the island of Madeira (Portugal). The few specimens listed in Breuss (2015: 164).

Taxonomy: - This rare endemic species in Madeira is characterized by bacillar spores, the presence of clearly thickened adges around the spore septa and the presence of usnic acid (Sipman 1983).
