Protologue: Habitu et anatomica M. prasinae Fr. et affinibus similis, sed apotheciis pallidis, thallo semper pallide luteoviridi et C+ aurantiaco differt (xanthon continens).

Protologue type data: Typus: USA, Washington, Clallam Co., Olympic Nat. Park, Ozette Lake NW, Ozette, just W of Ozette River bridge, along trail to Cape Alava, 48°09'N, 124°40.5'W, alt 10-20 m, lignicolous on vertical faces of giant, rotten conifer stump, 1998, Tøsberg 25770 (BG-holotypus; E, US, WTU-isotypi).

Type locality: USA, Washington, Clallam County, Olympic Natational Park, Ozette Lake NW, Ozette, just W of Ozette River bridge, along trail to Cape Alava, lignicolous on vertical faces of giant, rotten conifer stump, 15 m, 1998, Tøsberg 25770 (BG - holotypus; E, US, WTU - isotypi).

Thallus: episubstratal, effuse and often wide-spreading, of scattered to confluent clusters of proliferating granules (goniocysts), pale yellow-green. Goniocysts 16-28 µm diam., sometimes adhering ... .

Photobiont: Data lacking.

Chemistry: Thallus K-, C+ persistent orange, PD-, UV+ dark orange; apothecia C-. TLC: thiophanic acid (major) with 1-3 satellites (in moderate to trace amounts) including ?arthothelin. Apothecia and thallus hyphae without pigments.
