Type locality: New Zealand, Havre de l'Astrolabe (Kaiteriteri), Lesson?, D'Urville? (PC-THURET [Galloway 1985] - holotype).

Thallus: loosely adpressed, 10-15(-20-30) cm diam., stramineous to pale grey-green to bright yellow when dry, pale yellow-green to olive when wet, becoming stramineous in the herbarium, main lobes spreading rarely subcrenulate, lobes broad, ... (White & James 1988: 117).

Photobiont: Nostoc.

Chemistry: No lichen substances.

Ecology: Corticolous or rarely muscicolous-saxicolous.

Distribution type: Southern temperate South America from latitude c. 30°S in the Chilean province of Coquimbo and into Argentina, to the southern tip of Tierra del Fuego. Also on Islas Juan Fernández (White & James 1988: 118 on Nephroma antarctica). New Zealand and Tasmania.
