Protolog: Thallus pale gray. Ascomata short lirelliform, black, sessile, simple to branched. Exciple completely carbonized. Hymenium not inspersed. Ascospores hyaline, fusiform, 11-14-celled, 32-35 x 4-5 µm. Thallus containing gyrophoric acid. Superficially similar to O. bonplandii but separated by its chemistry and shorter ascospores of a different ontogeny.
Type: U.S.A. Florica. Miami-dade county: Everglades National Park, at west end of Ingraham Trail 16 kilometers from gate, 25°19'N 80°46'W, corticolous on Myrica cerifera, 8 March 2013, F. Seavey & J. Seavey 6135E (holotype: FNPS).

Thallus: ecorticate, esorediate, epiphloeic, smooth, continuous, determinate, 140-160 µm thick, pale gray. Ascomata black, short lirelliform, sessile, scattered, epruinose, simple to branched, occasionally asteriform, 0.30-0.75 x 0.12-0.16 mm, labia convergent early, soon open, disc becoming brown. Excipulum black, completely carbonized, 45-80 µm wide. Hypothecium pale brown, 14-22 µm tall, I+ red, KI+ blue. Hymenium hyaline, not inspersed, 70-85 µm tall, I+ red, KI+ blue. Paraphysoids branched and anastomosing, ca. 1-1.5 µm wide. Epihymenium pale to dark brown, 8-10 µm tall, I+ red, KI+ blue. Asci clavate, 60-95 x 16-21 µm, 8-spored. Ascospores hyaline, fusiform, 32-35 x 4-5 µm, 11-14-celled, type 2 ontogeny. Perispore 2-2.5 µm wide. Pycnidia not detected (Seavey et al. 2014: 63).

Chemistry: K-, KC+ red, C+ red, P-. Gyorphoric acid (Seavey et al. 2014: 63).
