Bryologist 117, 1: 66 (2014).

Protologue: Thallus pale gray. Ascomata lirelliform, immersed, black. Excipulum carbonized laterally. Hymenium not inspersed. Ascospores hyaline, 8-celled, 22-28 x 4.5-5.0 µm. Thallus containing protocetraric acid. Similar in ascospore size and septation to O. vulgata but differing by its immersed lirellae, chemistry and ascospores of a different ontogeny.

Protologue type data: U.S.A. Florida. Miami-Dade County: Everglades National Park, Entrance Hammock. 25°23' N 80°34' W, corticolous on Quercus virginiana in a large light gap within the tropical hardwood hammock, 26 Dec. 2011, F. Seavey & J. Seavey 5622E (holotype: FNPS).
