Thallus: foliose, lobes irregularly arranged, closely adnate to substrate, brownish grey to greyish brown. Lobes up to c. 1 mm wide, plane to slightly undulate, sometimes with numerous overlapping lobules closely similar to phyllidia. Rhizines sparse, pale to dark grey. Hypothallus thin and bluish black or absent. Isidia and soredia absent. Apothecia common, sessile, disc red with paler proper exciple. Spores 16 - 20 / 8 - 10 µm, with ornamented spore wall (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 157).
