Type: Mexico, Baja California Norte, Punta Santa Tomas, c. 30 km SW of Ensenada, 31°33'N; 116°42'W, c. 80 m, on top of rocky hill at seashore with a coastal desert shrub community including Agave shawii, Salvia sp., Simmondsia sp., etc., with pre-batholithic rock outcrops, on acidic rock on Tephromela atra, 1989, H. Sipman 24746 (B-holotype; hb. v.d. Boom-isotype).

Type locality: Mexico, Baja California Norte, Punta Santa Tomas, c. 30 km SW of Ensenada, on top of rocky hill at seashore with a coastal desert shrub community including Agave shawii, Salvia sp., Simmondsia sp., etc., with pre-batholithic rock outcrops, on acidic rock on Tephromela atra, c. 80 m, 1989, H.
