Thallus: 5-10 cm diam., close or loosely attached to the substratum. Upper surface grey or greenish grey, strong to slightly or not scrobiculate. Lobes (1-)2-4(-8) mm wide. Pseudocyphellae laminal and marginal, punctiform, oblong or linearly elongate, sometimes raised and located on ridges of the upper surface, rarely restricted to the margins, developing into secondary soralia with farinose or granular soredia, infrequently mixed with small thick phyllidia. Medulla white. Lower surface pale buff or creamish, frequently darker below the apices. Apothecia very rare; 8-spored asci; ascospores ellipsoid, (5-)6.5-10 x (8-)10-13 µm. Pycnidia laminal, immersed; conidia short- or long-filiform, (5-)6.5-11(-15) µm long (mode of conidial length ranging from 7 to 11 µm) less than 1 µm thick; infrequently short-filiform conidia are mixed with thicker ones (1 µm) (Adler & Ahti 1996: 434).
