Type: Cuba, Wright s.n., Lich. Cub. II: 147 (H-NYL 40428 - lectotype, designated by Tibell 1996: 54, ; FH, G, K, S, UPS, US - isotypes).

Thallus: crustose, grey to pale stramineous, superficial, dull, continuous, without crystals. Ascomata conical, 0.6-1 mm diameter, 0.5-0.8 mm high, with a well-developed mazaedium. Excipulum strongly sclerotized, up to 200 µm thick. Ostiole apical, 150-200 µm diameter. Mazaedium dark rusty-red from paraphyses densely covered by red crystals. Hamathecium without oil droplets, I-. True, unbranched paraphyses present. Perphyses absent. Asci cylindrical, with uniseriate, periclinally arranged spores, 31-34 / 3 µm. Spores 1-septate, brown, ellipsoid with rounded ends, not constricted at septum, wall minutely ornamented with small warts or sometimes with lingitudinal folds, 10-13.5 / 6.5-8 µm. There is a minute but strongly pigmented ring surrounding the pore of the septum (Tibell 1996: 54).

Photobiont: Trentepohlia ? (Tibell 1996: 54).

Chemistry: Thallus KOH-, KC- Pd-, UV+ brilliant yellow. Lichexanthone (Tibell 1996: 54).

Ecology: On trunks in tropical areas (Tibell 1996: 54).
