Thallus: Pale green, sometimes blackened at the base, caespitose or more often pendulous, to 6 cm long, sparingly or much branched, branching dichotomous; branches to 0.5 mm broad but the ultimate ones much less, fragile and crumbling easily especially when dry, terete, not sorediate but with pale warty patches most abundant at the tips. Apothecia not seen in Florida specimens (?).

Photobiont:

Chemistry: Usnic acid and salazinic acid. Cortex K-; medulla K+ red, C-, PD+ red.

Ecology: Rare but locally fairly abundant; on trees, especially Taxodium; the Everglades. The only area where this species is known to be abundant is along Route 94 in Collier and Monroe Counties. General distribution : Tropical America and the West Indies.
