Protologue type: Peru. Dept. Junin. Prov. Tarma, along the road to La Oroya, on rock, alt. 3400 m, October 9, 1984, H. Kashiwadani no. 22737 - holotype in TNS.

Type: Peru, Departamento Junin, Provincia Tarma, along the road to La Oroya, on rock, 3400 m, 9.10.1984, H. Kashiwadani 22737 (TNS - holotype).

Distribution: Lichen. Thallus fruticose, dorsal surface greyish yellow, ventral surface whitish yellow, 2 - 7 cm long, tufted, palmately and subdichotomously branched, developing from a narrow holdfast. Branches solid, 1 - 3 - 4 mm wide, becoming terete or irregularly thickened towards the apices, with dissected distal branches with granular soredia; dorsal surface smooth to weakly rugose, flat or more or less canaliculate, sometimes longitudinally fissured; ventral surface smooth but often reticulatedly fissured exposing the medulla. Soralia on branches, marginal or laminal on the ventral surface, soredia granular. Pseudocyphellae linear, flat or more or less hollowed. Thallus 150 - 500 µm thick; cortex indistinct; chondroid tissue irregular in thickness, never cracked, 50 - 200 µm thick; medulla loose. Apothecia rare, constricted at the base, up to 3 mm in diameter; disc plane to more or less concave; margin thin, entire; thalloid exciple smooth, rarely with radiately arranged linear pseudocyphellae; hymenium 35 - 40 mm thick; subhymenium 7 - 10 µm thick; hypothecium indistinct, ca. 5 µm thick; supportive tissue below hypothecium not developed; ascospores narrow fusiform, straight or slightly curved, 2-celled, often with additional septae, 10 - 12.5 / 2 - 3 µm. Pycnidia not seen (Kashiwadani 1988: 125).

Algae: Green alga.

Chemistry: Usnic acid, psoromic acid, 2'-O-demethylpsoromic acid (Kashiwadani 1988: 125).

Ecology: Saxicolous or very rarely corticolous, on twigs of bushes closely attached to rock (Kashiwadani 1988: 125).
