Thallus: rigid, 2 - 3 cm high, moderately branched. Branches stramineous, solid, mainly subterete, 0.2 - 0.8 mm wide, with longitudinally disposed, shortly linear pseudocyphellae, grooves, and cracks, apices tapering, slender, sometimes with scattered black spots. Soredia absent. Apothecia numerous, lateral on geniculate branches, disc flat to strongly convex, 1.0 - 1.5 mm diameter. Spores broadly ellipsoid, 13 - 15 / 6.5. - 7.5 µm (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 280).

Chemistry: Uscic acid in cortex, no medullary substances (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 280).

Ecology: In East Africa corticolous on dry shrubs in low coastal hills at 300 to 400 m altitude, rare (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 280).
