Thallus: caespitose, to 8 cm long, repeatedly dichotomously branched. Branches stramineous, often discoloured at base, solid, bilateral, flat, 1 - 1.5 mm wide near base, tapering to 0.1 mm apically, occasionally perforate, with marginal, linear pseudocyphellae, apices often recurved, with ecorticale granules. soredia erupting marginally in cracks between the upper and lower cortex or, more rarely, laminally from longitudinal cracks. Apothecia not seen (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 284).

Chemistry: Usnica acid, no medullary substances (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 284).

Ecology: Corticolous on Dendrosenecio trunks and saxicolous on rocks in the subalpine zone, ca. 4000 m, rare (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 277).
