Type: Holotype: U.S.A. Virginia. Page Co.: Appalachian Trail below Crescent Rocks, schist boulder, Hermann 15849 (us).

 

Thallus: Fruticose, abundantly branching, small, usually not more than 2 cm in length, erect in dense tufts, rigid, bushlike. Branches flattened, upper and lower surfaces indistinguishable, minute in width (0.5 - 1 mm in breadth). Attachment to substrate by a basal plate, sometimes becoming blackened basally. Cortex yellowgreen, smooth and shiny, with characteristic terminal soralia arising from minute recurved branch tips; soredia yellow-green, medulla white. Apothecia and pycnidia not observed. Substratum saxicolous or corticolous.

Photobiont:

Chemistry: Medulla PD+, containing protocetraric acid with usnic acid or atranorin cortically.
