Thallus: fruticose, rigid, erect to subpendulous, 2 - 5 - 7 cm long, densely dichotomously or irregularly branched. Laciniae subterete, 0.4 - 0.8 mm broad, pale grey to stramineous, pseudocyphellae spindle-shaped or elongate, longitudinally arranged, more or less anastomosing. Soralia absent. Cortex absent, anastomosing chondroid strands distributed in the compressed medullary tissue, algal cells present throughout the medulla. Pycnidia with pale ostioles. Apothecia lateral, thalline exciple smooth or pseudocyphellate, disc up to 5 mm in diameter, spores 10 - 15 / 5 - 6 µm, with thick spore wall (Krog & Østhagen 1980: 285).

Chemistry: Protocetraric acid (Krog & Østhagen 1980: 285). Usnic acid.
