Ramalina requienii (De Not.) Jatta

Syll. Lich. Ital.: 64 (1900).

Basionym: Ramalina polymorpha var. requienii De Not., G. Bot. Ital. 2, 1: 215 (1846).

Type: France, Corsica, Porto vecchio in Corsica, sulle rupi marittime colla Roccella phycopsis, Requien (xxx).

 

Thallus: fruticose, ascending, rigid or rather soft, up to 4 cm high, richly dichotomously to irregularly branched from a narrow holdfast. Laciniae stramineous to pale green-grey, often with a brownish tinge towards the base, matt to subshiny, weakly ridged or pitted, sublinear to irregular, flattened or slightly channeled, up to 8 mm broad, apices more or less finely divided, often recurved. Laminal maculae and pseudocyphellae occasional. Margins erose, with granular soredia and / or coarse, corticate granules. Cortex 20 - 30 - 40 µm thick, chondroid tissue as subcortical strands, sometimes interconnected across the dense medulla. Apothecia rare, lateral, up to 5 mm in diameter, deeply concave, spores straight or slightly curved, 10 - 12 / 4 - 5 µm (Krog & Østhagen 1980: 289).

Chemistry: Cortex with usnic acid, Medulla divaricatic acid, triterpenoids. Cortex K+ faintly yellow, K+N yellow (xxx: xxx, Follmann & Huneck 1976: 16).

Ecology: Saxicolous.
