Type: HOLOTYPE: MEXICO. Sinaloa: On leguminous trees in thorn forest 4 km east of La Cruz, 23 December 1971, P. W. Rundel 5046 (University of California, Irvine).

 

Thallus: Sparsely and diffusely branched, tufted, rigid and bushlike. Branches strongly flattened, compressed, solid, upper and lower surfaces indistinguishable, tips tapering, arising from a thalloid attachment plate. Maximum branch width 0.5 cm, length 4 cm. Surface somewhat wrinkled, displaying abundant characteristic white papillae disposed the length of the branches. Cortex greenish, medulla white. Apothecia common and numerous, laminal, subterminal, margins thalline. Disk pale, maximum diameter 4 mm, concave. Spores straight to slightly curved, uniseptate, 13.2 - 15.4 x 4.4 µm.

Chemistry: All color reactions are negative. Sekikaic (?) and an unknown acid present (TLC).

Ecology: This lichen occurs infrequently throughout the thorn forest vegetation around La Cruz on branches of leguminous trees.
