Thallus: Typically corticolous, rarely lignicolous, very rarely saxicolous, with very thin, almost entirely terete branches that are never canaliculate.

Algae:

Chemistry: Usnic acid.

Ecology: Abundant and widespread, especially in the humid highlands, the agricultural areas of inhabited islands as well as natural areas, more rarely also in the lowlands or along the coast, once also found on metal of an old car wreck.
