Thallus: pulvinate, to 3 cm high, densely and irregularly branched. Branches semipellucid, pale grey or stramineous, hollow and inflated near base, to 2 mm diameter, with few indistinct perforations, distal parts compressed, apices white with a powdery appearance. Medullary layer fairly dense but discontinuous. Ultimate branches producing easily detached non-corticate fragments or granules, but regular soredia absent. Apothecia unknown (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 289).

Chemistry: Usnic acid in the cortex. Substances in the sekikaic acid agg. (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 289).

Ecology: Saxicolous in the alpine zone at 3700 - 4000 m altitude, rare (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 289).
