Type:

 

Thallus: caespitose, to 4.5 cm high, densely and intricately branched. Branches pale stramineous or pale greenish grey, pellucid, with a nodulose appearance, hollow and inflated, with perforations on under side, a few main branches to 4 mm diam., secondary branches 0.5 - 0.8 mm. Medullary layer very thin, discontinuous, arachnoid. Soredia absent. Apothecia apical on coarse main branches or more commonly on lateral secondary branches, at first concave and partly immersed in the branch, soon becoming flat or slightly convex, to 7 mm diam. Spores straight or slightly curved, broadly ellipsoid, 18 - 20 - 22 / 8 - 10 - 12 µm (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 277).

Chemistry: (1) Sekikaic acid with or without large amounts of homosekikaic acid and associated compounds. (2) divaricatic acid (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 277).

Ecology: On twigs in the ericaceous zone and rock in the alpine zone, 3400 to 4000 m alt., locally common (Swinscow & Krog 1988: 277).
