Type locality: Macedonia, Veles [After the Second World War the town was part of the communist Yugoslawia and was called Titov Veles named after the state leader Josip Broz Tito], Han Babuna [Babuna is a village in the Veles municipality], 500 m, 1954, H. Runemark (LD - holotype).

--> Description: Thallus usually 3-6 cm in diam. Areolae + close together, separated by black prothallus strips. Prothallus + well developed Areolae 0.5-1.1 mm in diam., 0.2-0.5 mm thick, angular to roundish, often verrucose, plane to slightly convex, greenish-yellow, surface + smooth, matt; cortex ca. 35 µm thick; medulla white. Apothecia 0.6-1.2 in diam., 0.3-0.7 mm thick, round to roundish, when young plane with a thick margin, when old strongly convex with no margin. Cortex cells of the excipulum brownish, K+ brownish-red. Subhymenium dark brown, K-, usually 100-200 µm thick. Hymenium 100-150 µm thick, colourless, uppermost part dark to dark greenish, K- more intensely green, apical cells of paraphyses clavate, + opaque. Epihymenium + distinct, containing dark, non-crystallized grains. Asci clavate ca. 90 x 30 µm, containing 4 (2-6) spores. Spores muriform, with many septa, 27-40 / 14 - 21 µm (Runemark 1956: 86).

Photobiont: Probably Trebouxia spec.

Chemistry: Rhizocarpic acid, stictic acid, K+ yellow, Pd+ brick-red, I- (Runemark 1956: 87).

Ecology: On exposed silicious rocks in mountains, 500 - 1400 m (Runemark 1956: 86).

Distribution type: Only known from a few localities in southern Europe.
