Protolog: Thallus tenuis, rimosus-areolatus; areolae ad ca. 0.50 mm latae; blastidia et soredia destituta. Apothecia margines colorati similis disco vel thallo. Ascosporae octonae, in modo B evolutae, formae Pachysporaria II, (12.5-)15.5-16.5(-19.5) µm x (7.0-)8.5-9.5(-11.5) µm.
Type. U.S.A. South Dakota. Minnehaha Co., outcropping of Sioux quartzite, E of the Sioux River, 2 mi south of Hwy. 38, between Rowena and East Sioux Falls, ca. 1300 ft, 31 December 1956, W.A. Weber S8490 (COLO - holotype, CANL, DUKE, FH, MIN, MSC, US; WIS - isotypes).

Type locality: USA, South Dakota, Minnehaha County, outcropping of Sioux quartzite, E of the Sioux River, 2 mi south of Hwy. 38, between Rowena and East Sioux Falls, ca. 430 m, 31.12.1956, W. A. Weber S8490 (COLO - holotype, CANL, DUKE, FH, MIN, MSC, US, WIS - isotypes).

Thallus: thin, dark grey to greenish-brown, rimose-areolate; areoles to ca. 0.50 mm wide, margins sometimes raised; surface plane to minutely verrucose, matt; margin determinate; prothallus absent or thin, entire of sometimes fimbriate, brownish; vegetative propagules absent. Apothecia sometimes innate, usually ....

Photobiont: Data lacking.

Chemistry: Spot tests all negative; secondary metabolites not detected (Sheard 2010: 187).
