Description: Lichen. Thallus often hardly apparent, of small irregular lobes. Lobes up to c. 1 mm wide, here and there ridged and fenestrate. Isidia absent. Apothecia numerous, 0.2-0.5 mm diam, densely clustered, adjoined, adnate on thallus to stipitate. Disc red. Margin of proper exciple carneous to pale brown. Cellular structure of proper exciple mainly sub- to euparaplectenchymatous. Ascospores eight per ascus, ellipsoid-cuboid to ellipsoid-oblong, 15-22 x 10-15 µm, many with six to eight cells, the walls lacking ornamentation (Swinscow & Krog 1986: 69).
Photobiont: Nostoc spec.
Chemistry: No lichen substances.
Ecology: On exposed bark in rather dry open woodland, in East Africa between 1500 and 2500 m (Swinscow & Krog 1986: 69).
