Type: Algeria, Constantine, Azeba, on sandstone (on cement walls, rare on limestone), C. Flagey, Flagey: Lichenes Algerienses 131 (UPS - lectotype, lectotypified by Knudsen & Etayo 2009: 61).

Thallus: thin, ecorticate, epilithic, hyphae gelatinized with scattered algae covering the substrate between dispersed apothecia that can easily be mistaken for the substrate itself. Apothecia scattered, easily to be mistaken for the substrate itself, black, large, mostly 0.7 - 1.5 - 2 mm in diameter, lightly pruinose with a bluish hue, with a prominent margin 0.1 - 0.15 mm thick. Hymenium 85 - 130 µm tall, very conglutinate, with septate paraphyses 2 - 2.5 µm in diameter, apically thickened to 3 - 4 µm. Asci mostly 60 - 90 / 17 - 33 µm, with about 50 ascospores per ascus. Ascospores 5 - 7 - 11.5 / 3 - 3.5 - 4 µm.
