Chemistry: Solorin (Kinoshita et al. 1993, Matsubara et al. 1994, Huneck & Yoshimura 1996: 129). 1-(0-alpha-D-Glucopyranosyl)-3S,25R-hexacosanediol (Kinoshita et al. 1993, Huneck & Yoshimura 1996: 137).

Ecology: Terricolous especially in "Schneetälchen".

Distribution type: Circumpolar Northern Hemisphere and Venezuela.

Taxonomy: Data lacking.

Note: Description of a cyanomorph, collected by Wang 1996: Thallus foliose, circular, 4-10 cm diameter, fragile, with particularly intense fragrance when fresh and moist. Lobes round, 5 - 15 mm wide, usually contiguous to adjacent or slightly overlapping; upper surface somewhat concave, dark grey when moist, pale to dark gray to brownish when dry, glabrous, smooth to rough, dull, non-isidiate, non-sorediate; margin dissected to form granules; lower surface bright orange, but browinsh in central part of thallus, distinctly veined, tomentose; rhizines sparse, simple, ca. 2 mm long, concolorous with thallus. Apothecia and pycnidia not known. Anatomy: Upper cortex 25-200 µm thick, colorless, paraplectenchymatous, composed of vertically oriented hyphae embedded in matrix. Photobiont layer mostly 100 - 200 µm thick
