Description: Lichen. Thallus crustose, whitish, matt, composed of a single algal-hyphal layer c. 25 µm thick. Apothecia scattered, prominent, 3/4-spherical, 0.5-0.7 mm diam.; openings 0.1-0.2 mm diam. Secondary excipulum yellow red, lateral part c. 30 µm thick, basal part 20 µm thick. Primary excipulum colourless, attached, 25 µm thick, increasing towards epithecium; periphyses 15 µm long. Hymenium 120-140 µm high; paraphyses and asci 2-geniculate. Spores to 8 per ascus, 2-3-seriate, colourless, 16-20-septate, oblong-fusiform, 65-90 x 14-16 µm, I+ purple (Salisbury 1972: 267).
