Thallus: crustose, effuse, thin, up to 3 - 4 cm in diameter, grey-green with pinkish parts, areolate; areolae 0.3 - 0.4 mm in diameter, sometimes sorediate. Soralia greenish, confluent from several areolae, up to 2 mm in diameter, convex. Soredia grouped in consoredia (see Tønsberg 1992), consoredia 40 - 50 µm in diametere Apothecia few, in groups, variable in colour (grey-green to black-brown), thin, sessile, flat, lecideine, with thin, elevated proper margin which is concolorous with the disc. Hymenium colourless, K-. Paraphyses thin, anastomosing, without enlarged tips. Hypothecium colourless. Spores 8 per ascus, simple, colourless, 8 - 10 / 5 - 6 µm (Øvstedal & Gremmen 1995: 2).

Chemistry: Gyrophoric acid, small amount of lecanoric acid (TLC) (Øvstedal & Gremmen 1995: 2).

Ecology: In the Antarctic on Polytrichum mossbanks. Data lacking.
