Type: Spain, Canary Islands, Tenerife, Tanque, Los Partidos de Franquis, petite colline à l'ouest d'un village abandonè, flan NE de la colline, sur les branches de Pinus canariensis, 1200 m, 8 September 1986, P. Clerc, %C%M%A: 4.5/32/27; usnic acid, salazinic acid (major), bourgeanic acid (major) (G - holotype; G, TFMC - isotypes).

Photobiont: Data lacking.

Chemistry: Usnic acid in the cortex, salazinic acid (major), bourgeanic acid (major) in the medulla (Clerc 2006: 196).

Ecology: On bark. Rare in the Azores between 100 and 300 m. More frequent in the Canary Islands. Collected at the Cape Verde Islands, lacking from Madeira.

Distribution: South western Europe, Macaronesica, western North America, South America.
