Chemistry: Usnic acid in the cortex, stictic acid group, more or less lobaric acid (12 out of 13 specimens analyzed by TLC have lobaric acid (Clerc 2006: 196). Medulla C-, K+ yellow turning reddish- orange, PD+ yellow turning orangish (stictic, norstictic, ? lobaric acids).

Ecology: Mainly on bark, but also found on stone and wood.

Distribution: Locally abundant along the coast from Vest-Agder to Hordaland in Norway, especially on Pinus. Occurs in coastal areas of western Europe, Macaronesia and western North America. Database
