Description: Lichen. Thallus crustose, epilithic, placodioid, attached to substratum, forming well-delimited to confluent rosettes, up to 30 mm in diam., orange to ochraceous, with a shinny surface, lacking pruina or only with a thin layer in the central part of the thallus and margins of the apothecia, also with some parts of the thallus whitened or suffering necrosis. Areoles convex and irregular or polygonal, 0.3-0.5(0.7) mm in diam. Marginal lobes also convex, often fan-shaped, contiguous and imbricate 0.5-2(3) mm long and 0.4-0.8(1) mm wide. Upper cortex scleroplectenchymatous type B, with thick-walled cells, and a well-developed crystal layer beneath the yellowish-orange outer layer. Algal layer arranged in clusters of algal cells divided by bundles of anticlinal hyphae. Medulla rather dense, with only some empty spaces among the bundles of hyphae. Apothecia zeorine, 0.5-1.5 mm in diam., abundant and crowded; disk flat or convex, sometimes sinuous, orange to brownish-orange, proper margin barely prominent or at the same level as disk, lighter than the disk, thalline margin present in young apothecia, same color as thallus, excluded at maturity. Paraphyses slender, straight or flexuous, simple or forked, with an occasional medial branch, the apical cell not very swollen, (1.5)2-3.5 µm wide. Ascospores lemon-shaped to orbicular-rhomboidal 10-15 x (6)6.5-10 µm, with an equatorial thickening ("septum") 4-5(5.5) µm high (Gaya 2009: 109-110).
